The Gethsemane Seventh-day Adventist church in Brockton, Massachusetts  reads together a chapter from the Bible each Sabbath as part of its worship and as separate and apart from the stated Scripture Reading.  In order to faciliate our readers, we include in our bulletin a short contemporary rendition of the chapter, as we understand it.  We share with you today our rendition of 1 Corinthians 6--be sure to read the chapter in your favorite version.

1 Corinthians 6 to the Gethsemane Church--Sample

Dear Believers:
This USA has lawyers on every corner, with everyone running to the courthouse. What a confusion!  You are not to take each other to court either in the Boston Municipal Court or here in Brockton on Main Street in the Plymouth County Court. Do you know why? We are the saints who will judge the earth and the angels.  So how dare we wash our dirty linen in the public? With all those bright pretentious people we have, you mean to tell me that we can’t find any wise person that can judge a problem?   Is it not better to take the matter to the church board, and even before you get there to work it out privately first with the person, and if that does not work, then call a third person, and if that does not work, then call the Board, and if that does not work, call the church? Just don’t run to the Boston Globe because you are only discrediting the Gospel. Better to take the wrong.

Don’t let anyone fool you.  There is no room in heaven for fornicators, adulterers, homosexuals, covetous, alcoholics, liars, thieves, or extortioners except they repent and seek forgiveness. Hello, don’t be boasty, for all of you were there one time and if it were not for Christ’s love, you’d be right back there.

Now, there are some things that are technically right and lawful for me, but it’s no use my trying to be right if one of you stumbles, so those things which are right for me and wrong for you, are in the end wrong for me. Some of you think that because Massachusetts has no law against shacking up that you can just go ahead and do it, just like you can eat every clean meat. Christians have to do more than obey the law of the land; they must obey God’s law, so even if something is lawful in Massachusetts, that does not mean that you are at liberty to do it and &nb sp;‘mash up the church’.  Here are five reasons why pre-marital sex and extra-marital sex and same-sex practices are wrong and bad:
  1. Your body belongs to God; it was not created for fornication, for it is an instrument of righteousness and we are stewards of our bodies.
  2. Your body is for the resurrection when Jesus comes, so don’t mess it up now. Give Him a break to do what He has to do.
  3. Your body is part of Christ’s body, just like your foot is part of your body, so don’t mess it up now, for if the foot does not work, the body can’t.
  4. Fornication is a sin against the body itself, for when you put a righteous object with an unrighteous one, you get an unrighteous result.
  5. Your bodies are like God’s church, a place where He seeks to dwell. Do you expect Him to dwell in a clutered, and dirty place?
Run from all that lewd stuff, from every bad thing. Run from Play Boy, pornography, blue movies, Penthouse and “Sex in the City” and when you are running, don’t look back. Remember Lot’s wife. Kick all that stuff to the curb and live free, for you have been purchased by God at great cost, therefore you’d better keep yourself on the straight and narrow by God’s grace, and don’t fool around, because you are going to have to give an account in the judgment and deliver this same old weary body to Him, so keep it good, okay? And remember that    Yessir, yes mon.

Sincerely
